Stay-At-Home Order: What does it mean for Real Estate

As you are aware by now, as of January 13, 2021, the Province of Ontario went into its second State of Emergency and as part of that, the Government has issued a Stay-at-Home Order in an effort to curb the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

Real estate continues to be an essential service and business can continue, provided all public health requirements and protocols continue to be followed.

So, what does this mean for existing clients or those thinking of buying or selling right now? Transactions can proceed, however, if renovation projects and/or short-term rentals are involved, the following guidelines need to be adhered to:

  • No new renovation projects are to start after January 12, 2021, but those already active may proceed

  • Any short-term rental booked pre-January 12, 2021 will still be honoured, however no bookings past that date may take place

That said, every situation is unique and may benefit from a detailed review. So, if you have questions or require clarifying regarding your specific circumstances, feel free to reach out at any time.
