The Ontario government has announced that the Province can move into Step Two of its Roadmap to Reopen  on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

What does this mean?

It means that outdoor activities can be further increased in size and indoor services can take place in small numbers with face coverings worn.

Activities permitted while in Step 2 include:

  • Outdoor gatherings and organized public events with up to 25 people;

  • Indoor gatherings and organized public events with up to 5 people;

  • Essential retail stores can open at 50 per cent capacity;

  • Non-essential retail permitted at 25 per cent capacity;

  • Personal care services where face coverings can be worn at all times, and at 25 per cent capacity and other restrictions;

  • Outdoor dining with up to 6 people per table, with exceptions for larger households and other restrictions;

  • Indoor religious services, rites, or ceremonies, including wedding services and funeral services, permitted at up to 25 per cent capacity of the particular room;

  • Outdoor fitness classes with 3 metres of physical distance;

  • Outdoor sports without contact or modified to avoid contact, with no specified limit on number of people or teams participating, with restrictions;

    For the real estate market, this means:

  • Real estate continues to be an essential service, and Members can continue to do business, but it’s NOT business as usual.

  • Open houses remain prohibited while in-person showings are permitted by appointment, with certain limitations

  • Refraining from face-to-face real estate practices is recommended as much as possible and use of virtual tools is encouraged whenever possible

  • Safety protocols for any in-person work should continue

  • Do you have a short-term rental or are you looking to book a short-term rental

  • In Step 2, short-term rentals, for recreational purposes, are permitted.

  • Hotels, motels and other short-term rental accommodations remain subject to specific rules on keeping indoor recreational facilities closed.

  • Inter-provincial, non-essential travel between Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec is now permitted as the ban on inter-provincial travel was lifted on June 16.

    Residential Evictions

Residential eviction orders for all tenancies subject to the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) resumed on June 2, with the end of the Stay-At-Home Order. The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) is carrying on most of its business using virtual video conferencing tools. Members who own investment properties or who are supporting clients can visit the LTB website to learn more.
